Exhausted

Last weekend we went up Rock Canyon with some friends to go rock climbing. We were up there for a few hours and had a blast. Hailey played well into her afternoon nap time, and this is what happened on the hike out of the canyon.

The last picture is our favorite. It was so funny to watch her slowly doze off until she was completely zonked out. There was pretty much no waking her. It was our first time using the backpack carrier, at least we know she likes it.

Dads are fun!

12mo Checkup

Today we went in for Hailey's 12mo checkup. She weighed in at 21lb 12oz and is 28in tall. The doc said she is doing great!

Happy 1st Birthday Hailey!!

I can't believe my little girl is 1. It's crazy. She is growing up way too fast. She will be 16 before we know it.

So yesterday was Hailey's birthday. She woke up bright and early (6:15am) as usual. The day started out normal, but with a little surprise from mom and dad.

A new car seat!! We have been long awaiting the day for the forward facing car seat. It will be a great addition to our family, especially on longer car excursions. I'm surprised by how much Hailey likes it. She has spent a lot of time yesterday and today climbing in and out of it, sitting different ways, checking out the cup holder... I'm glad it was such a success. Now we just have to actually try it in the car.

Later in the evening we had a little family party for her. The Gublers, Becks, and Blumes came, as well as a couple of college friends.

Opening presents was tons of fun. She got way too much stuff, but I'm sure she will enjoy all of it. She was a little confused during the gift opening. We would hand her a box, tear the paper off revealing something awesome and exciting, and then take it away from her and hand her another box. She just didn't understand why we kept taking the new fun things away from her.

Cupcakes were a fun adventure as well. I saw a cute idea online to make the cupcakes into a balloon bouquet. It turned out pretty cute.

I was excited for her to blow out her candle, and I figured there was no need to practice because she blows on everything. But, I did not consider that she has never seen a flame before. She was rather unsure about the whole ordeal and she could not be persuaded to blow it out.

When it came to eating the cupcake, she was much more reserved than we expected. At first she just stared at it and poked the icing. After I gave her a little taste of the icing, I figured she would gobble it up, but she didn't. She very delicately picked off icing and stuck it in her mouth. After we broke up the cupcake a little bit she got a bit more bold and started shoving it in her mouth. But in the end, she was actually cleaner than a usual feeding. It was adorable to watch.

We had a great day. Happy Birthday Hailey, we love you!!

Blarney & Shenanigans

This past Friday & Saturday Josh was down South a bit with his friends Randall & Ben doing some canyoneering. It was good for him to get out and have some fun, we have been so busy lately with projects and such that we haven't had very many outdoor adventures.

Friday they did the Left Fork of Blarney Canyon:

Friday night they camped near Blarney:

Saturday they did Shenanigans:

Shenanigans is a pretty tight canyon. Josh said he spent most of the time sliding sideways between two rock walls (against his chest and back). Needless to say, his jeans were destroyed. I was glad he could go have some fun, but Hailey and I are also glad to have him safely back at home.

Happy Mother's Day!

We just wanted to pay tribute to our mothers. They are wonderful women that we have come to understand much better over the last year. Mickey, Kathy, & Debi, we love you.

Thank you so much for all you do. We would not be who we are without you.

Tulip Festival

Monday morning, before taking my mom up to the airport, we stopped at Thanksgiving Point Gardens to see the leftovers of the Tulip Festival. It was gorgeous. I love tulips, and there were about 5 acres to wander around and gaze upon. Josh & I had a fun time taking lots of pictures, and Hailey & Peaches enjoyed walking around together. It was a nice relaxing activity, with a little bit of rain.

Visitors!

So on Friday afternoon, my mom showed up at our doorstep. She and Josh had apparently been conspiring for months to bring my mom out for my birthday. (I'm not so sure I was the main drive...I think Peaches wanted to see the baby, but I'm okay with that.) It was great to have her here for a few days. We had a good time and Hailey loved it.

Sunday evening we had some family over to celebrate the big 2-6. My mom's cousin and her family came down from Salt Lake. They have 4 girls, and the little one is about Hailey's age. A little later, Josh's mom, grandma, sister & brother-in-law stopped by. It was fun to see them all. We feasted on fruit and cookies, as we are not big cake eaters.
